Trip Reports
Trip Report: Yosemite-Mariposa Fly-In, July 16, 2011
We had a great time on this trip! We ended up having two aircraft and six people attend. One plane departed IFR from Salinas and the other departed VFR from Watsonville. We both arrived at Mariposa/Yosemite Airport (KMPI) in time for lunch at a nearby restaurant. After lunch we loaded back up in the planes and flew over Half Dome and the Yosemite Valley for the incredible views. After taking all of the photographs we could, we headed back home.
Trip Report: Columbia Fly-In, June 18, 2011
Wow, what a trip! Dan Jadick, Bruce Bundy and I spent a wonderful day in the Sierra foothills. We could not have chosen a better day for a smooth ride to Columbia State Park in California’s gold country. We launched into a typical central coast summer overcast layer IFR to VFR on top then direct to O22 and arrived at our destination in about an hour. Columbia is a very popular place during the summer as we were #4 for landing after doing a 360 for spacing
We stepped out into the warm 82 degree sunshine and the distinct smell of pine trees and moist summer soil in the air. We spent about 3 hours exploring the town, rich in gold fever history, had lunch in the local saloon, complete with Sarsaparilla, and an ice cream before heading for home. Overall, a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Pot-Luck Social at Santa Cruz Flying Club
Potluck Schedule
Our potlucks are scheduled for for the second Monday of every month, they are held at the club office and they start at 6:30 p.m.
Flight Simulator at the Santa Cruz Flying Club
SCFC has a flight simulator, it’s one of the latest model from Elite, FAA approved for IFR and VFR training; you can log 10 hours for your IFR training and 2.5 for your VFR training and do all your IFR proficiency with it. This is the only simulator of its kind at WVI, it has dual screens and the ability to have a CFI monitor your progress as you go.
SCFC is very excited be the only FBO that offers this advanced simulator at WVI. The rate is $35.00 an hour with blocks of 10 hours at $ 30.00 an hour.
Have a trip idea?
Part of being a “flying club” is the opportunity to gather a group of people easily to do something fun! Interested in a BBQ at Oceano, lunch at Columbia or Pine Mountain Lake? How about a nice dinner at Napa or South Lake Tahoe? Within just the past months club members have done each of these trips! If you have a trip idea just visit the message forums and name some locations and dates.
Regular Club Meetings
Always verify meeting dates and times before attending, but the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 pm is an open combined Board & CFI meeting. If you have any questions or comments with anything about the club, please come by and let us know about it.
The Santa Cruz Flying Club is a full-service flight school offering training from the very first flights up through Instrument, Commercial and beyond. The club atmosphere aids in learning to fly by sharing experiences with others, going on group flights to interesting destinations, and sharing flight expenses with other pilots. For more information about this or other events visit the club online at http://scfc.org or by calling 831-722-4580.
